Yatai Asian Tapas Bar– National Spicy Tuna Day!

In honor of National Spicy Tuna Day I thought I’d post a recent adventure to Yatai Asian Tapas Bar.

This is a cozy spot on Sunset, with unique interior design–the walls are slowly being covered with wine bottle corks in an every growing design.  We started our lunch with sake margaritas.  I snuck in a photo of the bartender making our drinks. LT tried the ginger sake margarita and I tried the peach.  We toasted to her birthday!

Along with our cocktails LT also decided to try the Ramune (japanese popup soda).  This is a sweet beverage, adored by children, with a bubble gum flavor of sorts.  If you’ve never seen this drink before it’s a cool experience to push the red top down and see the ball pop into the drink.  It almost looks like a little crystal glowing in the bottle with the bubbles surrounding the floating ball.

LT and I both ordered the spicy tuna burger lunch special ($8.50) with choice of drink (I chose the un-sweetened iced green tea) and tempura pumpkin with curry salt in which to dip.  The spicy tuna burger is unique in that it comes with crispy rice patties.  Anyone that is a fan of spicy tuna on crispy rice will love this “burger.”

Mr. King got the signature bento box. This is build-your-own with choice of sushi rolls wrapped in soy paper and many different tapas selections: shishito peppers, age-dashi, fried calamari, spicy tuna on crispy rice, seared ahi satay, kara-age (fried chicken bites), etc…

Since this lunch was in celebration of LT’s birthday we decided to splurge and also get dessert– green tea & mango mochi. Definitely a satisfying lunch 🙂
